around Christmas time, we had a special giveaway called Giving is Awesome. we had so many great entries, and while this isn’t the one that was officially picked, their story touched us and we wanted to help out however we could. below is the email we received :
For as long as I can remember, my daughter has dreamed of her wedding day. At age 3, she had a doll her own size and played “Wedding.” She had a headband veil that she would wear and dance around with her doll. She’d hum the wedding march and dance and giggle.
When she was a teenager, she’d save her money to buy wedding magazines instead of Seventeen. She’d spend hours cutting out all of the pictures she liked and would make imaginary guest lists.
Now that she’s engaged, her wedding hasn’t been what she’s spent her time on. She’s helped me graduate from college, spent time taking care of her nieces when her brother was deployed, sacrificed having a car so that she and her fiance could pay their mortgage. She’s postponed their wedding more than once due to family conflicts. Every time she sets a date, something comes up.
Recently, she got the news that her future father in law was being deployed to Afghanistan. With the fear of death during deployment and not knowing how long he would be deployed, she had to do what was needed to make sure he was there. She could see how heart-broken her fiance was so she scraped her dream wedding so they could get married before he deploys.
The wedding is in March. She can only afford to invite 20 people and not expect them to have to pay for their own dinner. She won’t be wearing a white dress because she couldn’t find one that fit in her price range. And she won’t be having any photography. She gets upset every time we talk about the wedding. She is afraid she won’t have any pictures. She’s seen the weddings where the bride depended on others to take pictures. She wants to make sure that after the fact, she’ll get to see the look on Mike’s face when she comes into the room. She wants to see the kiss that sealed the deal. The looks on everyone’s faces around the table during the reception.
It’ll be all I have just to be there. If I could afford to pay for this, I would. I’m willing to do anything I can. I want to do anything I can.
I want my daughter to be able to look back on the pictures of her big day. She’s dreamed of this day for so long and is willing to make sacrifices to ensure that the man that she loves gets to see his father in the crowd. Please help her. Make her Christmas wish come through.
Again thank you for what you are offering. It takes a lot to offer yourself to others.
Sincerely,
Fran
