mentioned

two of our favorite people in the photography world – Sara France and Dane Sanders – mentioned us on a podcast interview. we met sara last year at wppi and got to hang out with her when we were in san diego. she’s also a big aperture user and trainer. see her on the apple site here. dane wrote a book called fast track photographer that helped us jump start our photography journey as a husband-wife team.

we had no idea they would be telling our story, so it was very cool to hear! you can listen to it here. you can skip to our story at around 22:40. if you’re a photographer, listen to the whole thing.

sarah + bryan * engaged * atlanta, ga

we were honored that sarah + bryan chose us to shoot their wedding, especially since they are photographers themselves! we had to get the warmed up in front of the camera, but it didn’t take long.

sarah workin’ those heels

love their silly side… so much fun!

how awesome are these shirts? bryan found his and then sarah searched for one and found it. perfect.

our awesome intern, colleen, snagged this shot of bryan warming sarah up.  :)

we love trying new things. sarah + bryan were up for anything, so we tested this on them. came out pretty sweet, dontcha think?

sarah + bryan: thanks for spending the windy, rainy afternoon with us! we had tons of fun and can’t wait for the wedding! :)

Instant California

chris got me this awesome camera for christmas. we had so much fun with it. i love it because, unlike digital, you have to pick and choose what you’d want to remember because the film ain’t cheap. i went through almost a whole pack the first day and had to find more! as promised… our trip to california told through instax photos!

san diego! i like to sing “i knew i loved you before i met you” in my mind when i think of this place. ha!

california * driving up the coast through a plastic lens

we’ve got plenty of photos coming, but we’ve been back for a few days and i need to catch up with sharing these images with you.  allie and i drove up hwy 1 along the coast to san francisco.  this might have been the most beautiful drive we’ve ever taken.  the first few shots are from our quick stay in los angeles.

in line for some awesome hot dogs in the city of angels.  pink’s was good.  not great.

LA_Day3-4 001

for a few days.  i simply couldn’t avoid the onion ring.

LA_Day3-4 005

we love the show “californication” and while in venice beach, allie and i searched for a few of the most used locations.  this one was karen & bill’s house.

LA_Day3-4 174don’t worry, allie’s instax are coming soon.  we took too many cameras so you’ll see some of the same stuff coming up, just shot in a different way each time.  then again…  we are photographers.  what did you expect?

california * a vintage look at day 2 in San Diego

okay here are some photos of day 2.  it’s really been a great trip so far and as i’m writing this it’s the end of day four.  again, i’ve fallen in love with these plastic lenses and allie got a whole collection of instax photos coming soon.  most of these photos were taken in La Jolla.

california * a vintage look at our 1st day in San Diego.

it’s been an amazing day.  we did, saw, and ate so much.  allie’s sleeping, but i could help but stay up and work on some of the photos we took.  allie got an instax camera for christmas from me, and i’m sure she’ll post those pictures soon.  her dad and i also got her the diana adapter and some diana plastic lenses for our nikons.  so allie was shooting with her new fuji instax, leaving the d700 with the plastic lenses free for most of the day…  i took advantage of it.  i can’t tell you how much fun i had letting go.  i’m usually a focus nazi, but that’s one thing these lenses rarely are.  so just finding the beauty in the raw out-0f-focus color fade glory of plastic lenses was a vacation in itself…  confession…  we did use the 50mm f1.4 on some of these.  i developed the photos a little in aperture and then added the final bam with “camerabag”.  what do y’all think?

scarlett . trash the dress

i think trash the dress gets a bad rap because of it’s name, but what i like most about it is that you can get great photos that you wouldn’t get on your wedding day, wearing rad accessories you usually wouldn’t wear with the dress. that’s basically what it is. maybe we should change the name of the session…

remember scarlett + jason? (engagement session | wedding in st. simons) scarlett was all for it and didn’t get her dress that dirty at all – nothing a little scrubbing won’t get out! :)

her + jason have a huge farm where we took the photos, and two cutie pie doggies who made some appearances.
